Naritasan Shinshoji Temple – Tokyo, Japan
On our last day in Tokyo we visited the Naritasan Shinshoji Temple in the Narita neighbourhood of Tokyo, Japan. (Learn more about the temple here.)
Fresh air and a long walk were much needed as we were flying to London that evening and would be cooped up for endless hours in stale air.
Our day started with a walk from our hotel, located next Narita Station to the temple itself.
The walk between the station and the temple is lovely. You pass restaurants, shops and other local businesses along the way and get a real, authentic Japanese experience.
On arriving at Naritasan Shinshoji Temple we were overwhelmed by the sheer expanse of the temple grounds and intricate details throughout the buildings and gardens.
We spent the day exploring the temple grounds. There seemed to be endless halls, temple buildings and pagodas, each more beautiful and intricately designed.

The temple grounds also included expansive, tranquil gardens which we enjoyed a walk through.
The highlight for the boys was the lake with it’s enormous fish that hovered close to the surface.

Overall, we found Naritasan Shinshoji Temple to be well worth the visit if you’re in the Narita area of Tokyo. The experience was tranquil and moving and we hope to visit again one day.
