Hearty Hungarian Beef Goulash

Hearty Hungarian Beef Goulash

Budapest is one of my very favourite European Cities. I’ve visited twice and each time loved immersing myself in the local culture and food scene.

Yes, there’s more to Hungarian Cuisine than Goulash, but the fact that it’s just such a hearty, delicious dish means that it’s the one I have the fondest memories of enjoying at it’s Culinary home in Hungary.

I adapted this recipe from Budapest By Locals, which has all sorts of interesting information about the history and variations of Hungarian Goulash.

You’ll want to make this recipe because it’s not just your run of the mill beef stews, but a hearty dish full of a rainbow of vegetables plus a delicious array of flavours.

If you’re not usually a fan of green peppers (like me!) then rest assured that cooking green peppers in this way actually brings out the sweetness of the usually bitter vegetable. A great way to cook the frugal, nutritious ingredient.

Make sure you get hold of Sweet Paprika for Goulash as the smoky or spicy varieties would produce a different dish altogether.

This dish is somewhere between a soup and a stew and is packed full of nutritious vegetables. The meat is just so tenderingly falling apart and so full of flavour from all the other hearty ingredients. You’ll want to make this Hungarian Beef Goulash over and over and over again.
