Baked French Toast With Apples

This Baked French Toast With Apples & Cinnamon has become a firm favorite meal in our house, enjoyed for breakfast, lunch or even a lazy dinner!

There are few recipes which smell as good as this one cooking – cinnamonny, cakey, comfortey – too divine for words!

Depending on the size of your bread you’ll need 4 to 6 slices. I used a gorgeous, locally made sourdough which has irregular sized oval bread. Simply use as many as fills your dish, and if you run out of batter just beat an extra egg or two and pour over.

This is how I placed the bread in the dish in overlapping layers.

The chopped apple is then distributed between and above the bread…

And then the batter is poured over. I find that the inclusion of cream and apple in this dish means that no sugar is needed for an incredibly rich dish. The cinnamon flavor is incredibly subtle in this dish, I love the little cinnamon flecks on the apples and bread…

You can either prepare the dish and place it in the fridge overnight for the bread to soak up the egg or you can place it straight into the oven, as I’ve suggested in the recipe. Regardless, you’ll love this dish!

Once you’ve removed the Baked French Toast With Apples & Cinnamon from the oven, allow it to cool a little before serving it to the kids.

My 5 year old was convinced the apples were little roast potatoes… until he took a bite of the sweet ingredient and realized it was a fruity favorite!

You can see why he thought they were potatoes though… I also love how the Baked French Toast puffs up once it’s cooked, it’s easy to know when it’s ready!
